Kajal Agarwal, the cover girl of Southscope's April issue, unveiled the magazine in Chennai

Music director Vijay Antony turns hero

The fastest rising music director in Kollywood, Vijay Antony has worn the grease paint and turned hero with Naan !

The 'Nakka Mukka' man is still topping the charts with songs like “Chinna Thamarai….” (Vettaikaran) and the catchy melody “Aval Appadi Ondrum Azhagillai…” (Angadi Theru) and is one of the hottest music directors in Tamil cinema.

The handsome music director has been flooded with offers from various producers to turn hero with their films. Finally Vijay Antony himself has turned producer with Naan for which he will be providing music and has Roopa of Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru playing his heroine.

The film is a musical thriller directed by Shankar a former assistant of the late cameraman turned director Jeeva. The shoot of the film is now taking place in a bungalow on ECR near Chennai.

Dr. Murray's Defense - Jackson Killed Himself

TMZ has learned Dr. Conrad Murray's legal defense is that Michael Jackson gave himself the fatal dose of Propofol.

Multiple sources familiar with the strategy tell TMZ the defense argument goes like this:

- At around 10:50 AM, Dr. Murray gave Jackson 25 mg of Propofol from a 20 ml bottle -- that's only about 1/8 of the bottle.

- The dose Dr. Murray administered would keep someone asleep for only 5 to 10 minutes, but the Propofol, along with the Ativan and Versed that was already in MJ's system, had a synergistic effect that put Jackson to sleep for a longer period of time.

- For the next hour, Dr. Murray stayed in the room and was on the phone for much of the time. Dr. Murray didn't leave the room to make the calls because MJ liked activity in the room, regularly sleeping with the lights on and cartoons blaring on the TV.

- At around noon, Dr. Murray left the room for approximately two minutes to go to the bathroom. While he was gone, the defense believes Jackson suddenly awakened and was frustrated he had spent nearly 9 hours trying in vain to sleep. The defense theory -- Jackson took the 20 ml bottle of Propofol and self-injected the remaining contents through the IV, causing a massive overdose that stopped his heart.

- Dr. Murray walked back in the room and saw Jackson with his eyes open and pupils dilated. Dr. Murray dropped the phone (he was speaking with his girlfriend) and began administering CPR.

The defense will argue Michael Jackson was a long-time Propofol addict -- something TMZ first reported shortly after the singer's death. As one source said, Jackson liked the sensation of Propofol being administered by IV, adding, "Michael liked to push it."

L.A. County Coroner's investigators took a picture in the room, showing an empty Propofol bottle on the floor, underneath the nightstand by Jackson's bed. The defense will argue Jackson grabbed the bottle from the nightstand, injected himself and then dropped the bottle.

Remember, law enforcement believes Dr. Murray hid bottles of Propofol before paramedics arrived. The defense will argue ... if Dr. Murray was really hiding Propofol, he would have removed the empty bottle under the nightstand that caused Jackson's death.

Sadha means it

An interesting thing about Sadha is that she would never utter a single word in front of the camera without knowing the meaning of it. “This is one thing I’ve been doing since my first film Jayam,” she says.SAha means it

The actress elaborates: “There is no point in delivering dialogues without knowing their meaning. It’s the duty of the artistes to be doubly sure of the character they play and the dialogues they speak. Only then justice could be done to the job.”

Giving a tip on how to learn a language soon, she says, “One has to observe their colleagues well. When so many people around you talk in a particular language, you would naturally pick up some words. That’s the trick.”

Saying she is already fluent in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, Sadha adds she is currently learning Malayalam and Kannada. “I am looking forward to dub for myself in a Tamil film. I am working towards that,” she says.

Rajini&kamal come together

The Tamil film industry is getting ready for yet another grand carnival. For Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will lay the foundation stone for ‘Kalaignar Thirai Oor’, a residential colony for members of the film fraternity, at Paiyanoor near Chennai on April 23.

The colony would come up at the 65-acre land allotted by the Chief Minister. Besides residential complexes, the Kalaignar Thirai Oor would also have a film studio, a hospital and other infrastructure facilities.

Superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan among other actors would take part at the function. While the Chief Minister would lay the foundation stone for residential complexes, Rajinikanth would do it for the studio and Kamal for the hospital.

According to Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) president V C Guhanathan, “We have also plans to set up an edit suit, a recording and dubbing studio at Kalaignar Thirai Oor. The colony would surely set an example for others.”

"Paiyaa at peak"

Declared already as a hit, collection reports of Lingusamy's 'Paiyaa' suggest the film is all set to become a blockbuster. Ever since the Karthi-Tamannah starrer hit screens Friday last, it has been running packed houses all over Tamil Nadu, theatre sources say.

Rave reviews from the media and aggressive marketing strategies by Dhayanidhi Alagiri, who had acquired the release rights, have been drawing crowds to cinema halls screening 'Paiyaa', we learn.

"Expectations of those who come to theatres are thoroughly fulfilled by Lingusamy and his team. Most of the scenes are received by the audience with huge applause," say sources.

"Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is no doubt an asset to the film," they say and add: "Youngsters are seen dancing for most of the numbers with Adadada Mazhada topping the list."

On performance by the lead actors, sources say, "Karthi's aggressive acting and cool looks have won the appreciation of many while Tamannah steals the show with her stunning looks and expressions. The chemistry they share on screen is great."

Ileana denies considering silicone treatment

South India's slim beauty Ileana was recently in Chennai for the inauguration of choreographer Shoby's IBO Dance School along with Kollywood's most happening celebrities Kamal Haasan, Suriya, Jeyam Ravi and K.S. Ravikumar. When asked in a freewheeling interview at the event why she is taking a long time to make a comeback in Tamil, the actress said she has been getting lots of offers from Tamil after her debut Kedi.

All along, I was busy with Telugu movies. Even now, recently I had agreed to do a film with Vikram under Vikram K. Kumar's direction because the script was amazing. But unfortunately, the project is not happening now. I had listened to yet another script from Bhoopathy Pandian with the same hero playing the protagonist. I liked the script but am yet to sign on dotted line. Let's see. Ileana earlier made headlines when she turned down a role Rajinikanth's Sultan The Warrior. Talking about refusing this role, Ileana said: When I realised it was an animated film and my face is not going to be shown, with the mutual consent with the film's director Soundarya Rajinikanth, I opted out of Sultan. Responding to rumours that she plans to undergo silicone enhancement, Ileana said: Silicone treatment? Do I look like that? (Laughs) I will never ever even think of it even in (my) wildest dreams. I don't want to play around with my body. Accept me as I am this is my mantra

Andrea will soon be a director

more andra pictures

Andrea was first introduced in the industry as a play back singer. Then Gautham Menon offered her ‘Pachaikili Muthucharam’ after seeing her in a television advertisement. Now Andrea has expanded the borders of her search for creativity in film world.

Sources say apart from occasional acting assignments Andrea is now working as an assistant director with Selvaraghavan. She is also planning to direct her maiden film in Tamil which will be a Children’s film. Sources add that she is presently working on the screenplay of the film and Selvaraghavan assistants are helping her to fine tune her work to details.

Meanwhile another news doing rounds is that Andrea has also become a song writer with the film ‘Madharasapattinam’. A song in this Arya film is said to have both Tamil and English lyrics. While Na. Muthukumar has done the Tamil bit Andrea has written the English lines. Andrea has also sung the song along with Roopkumar Rathod and Harini. Andrea is on a fast track for sure

Sura - Mass Curry

Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay’s 50th movie ‘Sura’ has music scored by Mani Sharma, the man who is supposedly busy with Telugu and Tamil projects. Perhaps being busy, has left him with little time that he has used the tunes of the best of his Telugu hits in this album.

The music will be a delight to the fans of Vijay with a few mass numbers that might excite them and imagining Vijay dancing to the tunes, it will be a visual treat at the theatres.

Mani Sharma has used four lyricists that include veteran Vaali, Na. Muthukumar, Kabilan and Snehan, who all have done a decent job keeping in mind Vijay’s mass image.

1. Thanjavoor Jillakkari - Listen here

Singers: Hemachandra and Saindhavi

Lyricist: Na. Muthukumar

A youthful and fast song that will definitely match Vijay’s dancing talent. The humming at the back is hum-worthy and will echo in your mind. Hemachandra and Saindhavi add that essential pep in this duet. A noticeable point in the song is the usage of the chorus and the humming in between verses. The beats might remind you of a few songs composed by Mani Sharma before. And just like the trend would be, a few English words in the lyrics have been penned by Muthukumar, making this number youthful.

2. Vetri Kdi Yeathu - Listen here

Singers: Ranjith and Mukesh

Lyricist: Vaali, S.P. Raajakumar

The song starts of with a composition that conveys a symbol of victory or achievement and then the song has a short stanza talking about the hero. This song is probably this introduction. With a steady tempo, Mani Sharma has used the percussions to good effect, with a catchy tune and the humming of the chorus. Ranjith’s voice is bright as usual and his Tamil diction is flawless. Vaali’s lyrics talk about the hero’s attitude towards life and the society.

3. Vanga Kadal Ellai - Listen here

Singers: Naveen and Maladhi Lakshmanan

Lyricist: Kabilan

This is a mass number with folk beats and a quintessential Vijay movie song. Nothing really in this song will entertain you. Even the lyrics won’t find your attention and you may even feel déjà vu listening to the music.

4. Siragadikkum Nilavu - Listen here

Singers: Karthik and Reeta

Lyrics: Snehan

All movie albums these days look like having at least one song with Karthik singing and this song satisfies that craving. A fast paced melodious song between the hero and the heroine, with lyrics about love. The music by Mani Sharma in this one is just another average fare composition. Except for Karthik and Reeta’s voice, nothing is praiseworthy in this song.

5. Thamizhan Veera Thamizhan - Listen here

Singer: Rahul Nambiar

Lyricist: Kabilan

“Thamizhan Vera Thamizhan…” starts of with a catchy tune and Rahul Nambiar’s voice adds energy to this song. This is basically a paean talking about the hero’s dynamism. With some excellent humming and percussions, this song might see its way in the background of the movie.

6. Naan Nadanthal Adhiradi - Listen here

Singer: Naveen, Shoba Chandrasekar, Janani Madhan

Lyricist: Kabilan

Another hit tune in a recent Telugu movie, Mani Sharma has used the tune effectively for the Tamil version. This song is sung by Naveen, Janani and Vijay’s mother Shoba Chandrasekar. The song starts of with some excellent ‘string’ work and continues with drums that make it a semi-fast song. The string composition is used skillfully in between as well. In between verses, the fillers are just about average and include English lyrics. Lyrics by Kabilan talk about the praises, both the hero and heroine exchange. Over all, a catchy tune.

All in all, as the movie would demand, this album is a mass entertainer that will entertain Vijay’s enormous fan base. Though a few numbers entertain, this album is just above mediocre.

Santhanu’s next is ‘Suvarillatha Chithirangal’

Santhanu Bhagyaraj after winding up ‘Siddu +2’ will be doing the remake of the yester years hit film of his father ‘Suvarillatha Chithirangal’. The pre production work for the remake is in full swing and senior Bhagyaraj is hopeful of recreating the magic of the original in the remake also. It’s the first time in Tamil that a director is remaking one of his earlier hits himself.

Testing for the second male lead is on and we hear the budding artiste Mahendran has also tried for the same. As far as the heroine role is considered lady luck may smile upon either ‘Subramaniapuram’ Swathi or ‘Poo’ Parvathi. Who ever gets the role must be thankful to director Bhagyaraj as the role has good scope for performance.

Vijay’s 51st film songs ready

Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay’s 50th film ‘Sura’ is in its final stages and his following 51st film is also matching the speed of ‘Sura’.

After ‘Sura’, Vijay will be doing the remake of Malayalam film ‘Bodyguard’ under the direction of Siddique. Music director is Vidyasagar and he is ready with the compositions for six songs. Pilot recording is on and the final songs will be ready soon. Yuga Bharathi has written all the songs.

The shooting for ‘Bodyguard’ remake will begin in the first week of June soon after the release of ‘Sura’. And the other important thing about the movie is Asin is returning to Kollywood with this film.

Print this E-mail this Thangapadhumai Tamannah Fans Club

Even if Tamannah wishes against it her fans in Tamil Nadu are soon to project her as the next prospective chief minister of the state. That’s what you feel after seeing the recent activities of Tamannah fans in smaller towns of Tamil Nadu.

After Madurai cinema buffs started a fans club for Telugu beauty Ileana now the far southern Thuthukudi fans have started a fans club for Tamannah. Thuthukudi fans claim their association is not just one of the clubs but the Head Fans Club.

To prove their point they have even erected a huge cut out towering 50 feet of Tamannah at the theatre releasing her latest film 'Paiyaa and performed ‘palabishekam’. Thuthukudi fans have also given her the title 'Thangapathumai' and call the newly formed association ‘Agila Indhiya Thangapadhumai Tamannah Rasigar Narpani Mandram'.

Hope they don’t stoop to new levels of indecency by venturing out to build a temple for the actress.

But still nobody could gauge the independent star value of Tamannah till now as all her films so far have been with big saleable mass heroes. Does any film sell on the value of Tamannah as it did once for Revathi or Nadhiya? ‘Agila Indhyia Thangapadhumai Tamannah Rasigar Narpani Mandram' president may be able to answer

I Would like to Marry a Tamil Girl – Vivek Oberoi

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has opined that his upcoming film ‘Prince’, which would be released in 120 cinema halls across the country in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions on the same day next Friday, is an action film which would be ‘second to none’ when it comes to quality in technology and in the making.

Vivek was addressing media-persons along with technicians who had worked for the film at Chennai’s Sathyam Cinemas on Monday. When asked about the movie, the Bollywood star said, “It’s an unforgettable experience for me to have worked in the film with upcoming and leading technicians in all departments of film-making. This could also be the first Indian movie to release worldwide with an acceptable quality and international standard.”

He spoke with a sense of satisfaction when asked about the stunts in the film. “I have performed the taxing and tough fight sequences on my own without making use of the ‘duplicate’. The fight sequences filmed in a 32-storeyed building in South Africa and another sequence where I was made to hang upside down from a moving helicopter while fighting were simply the most pleasurable moments of my life!”

On Tamil films and stars, he said that he likes Trisha for her beautiful smile and stunning looks. “I have done Maniratnam’s ‘Yuva’ in Hindi opposite Kareena, the role which Trisha did in the Tamil version. I’m quite happy that she’s on the verge of making her Bollywood debut”.

He also expressed his desire to work with the ace director Maniratnam once again. He also said that eh would love to star in young Tamil director Selvaraghavan’s m

Shruti Haasan to pair up opposite Surya?

The multi talented Shruti Haasan debuted as heroine in Bollywood with ‘Luck’ opposite Imran Khan last year but it didn’t prove lucky for her at all. Unfazed, she is still said to be having an eye on Bollywood and would shift base if she got more offers, as language isn’t a barrier for her in Hindi films.

She recently signed up and is shooting non-stop for her first Telugu film as heroine opposite teenage heartthrob Siddharth. This has obviously left the Tamil audiences disheartened as they have been waiting for ages to see this stunner in action in Tamil films.

Reports say that Shruti has agreed to pair up opposite Suriya in a new Tamil film to be directed by A.R. Murugadoss. Shruti says that she liked the hero and the director and believes that she has a winner on her hands!

Trisha speaks on her future plans

Reigning actress Trisha is working hard on her Bollywood debut Khatta Meetha opposite Akshay Kumar directed by her mentor Priyadarshan.

We also hear that the actress has doled out innumerable dates for her B-town debut. “I spared 120 days for the film, since Priyadarshan works very fast in comparison to other Bollywood filmmakers. He has wrapped up most of the shooting; we only have a 15-day schedule left,” Trisha said to a leading English daily.

“Akshay’s known to have great comic timing, I think even my comic timing is good as I have done lots of Tamil and Telugu comedy flicks. Besides comedy, the film has its share of emotional moments too. Working with Akshay has been a pleasant experience, he has been a good teacher. I have learnt a lot from him,” she added.

About her three film deal with Akshay Kumar, she revealed, "Of course. I have to do another film for Akshay’s production house, either with him or some other actor."

Interestingly Trisha hasn’t signed a single Tollywood project in 2010. Is she planning to give up Tollywood? She chirps in quickly, "Nothing of that sort. Tollywood has been treating me great, so I don’t need a break. I couldn’t do Ravi Teja’s film since it got postponed and my dates went unused in February and March. Now they want dates in April but I had already allotted those dates to my Hindi film Khatta Meetha and Kamal sir’s new Tamil film." Trisha says she’s going to bounce back in Tollywood very soon with a big-ticket entertainer.

Dhanush new film

Actress Andrea and Dhanush are going to act for Director Selvaraghavan's next movie "Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam". The proposal to start the picture is next week. In the mean time the direct is parting with his wife Sonia. In the year 2006 itself this movie was planned with actor Karthi and Sandhya. But for some reasons stopped as Karthi engaged in Aayirathil Oruvan with the same director. Now every thing sorted out and ready for the film "Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam".

The cinematography will be taken care by Ramji who is also already doing Aayirathil Oruvan and Yuvan may do the music. The story is about younger generation was already with Selva and he wanted to complete the film very quickly and most probably hit the screen in early next year. Best Luck to the team.

Paiyaa movie story

The much expected movie “Paiyaa” released today. This is a summer treat for the audience. Director Lingusamy did his work very well. The love scenes are taken beautifully. Karthi and Tamannah did their part superbly. The opening scene of car chasing is very brilliant. Tamannah is looking very charming and beautiful in this film. The music by Yuvan Sankar Raja is superb.

Siva (Karthi) is a B.E graduate searching a suitable job for him. In the mean time, he saw Charu (Tamannah) in a bus stand and begins to love her. He spends his time in following her and misses his interview also. When he accepts to drop Charu at Mumbai the superb action begins. The voyage of Paiyaa starts here with action, romance, fight, etc. Antony’s editing is superb.

3idots in tamil

The super hit Hindi movie 3 Idiots is running successful in Chennai. Vijay was impressed by the movie and acting of Amir Khan, finally decided to do the role of Aamir Khan in Tamil remake of 3 Idiots. The other two important roles in the movie are given to Jeeva and Simbu, But Simbu is not willing to do it. I think Madhavan is going to do the role in Tamil also.

The music director for this film is Vijay Antony and cameraman is Ratnavelu. Now Vijay is busy in his 50th film Sura. After completing his shooting, the film “3 Idiots” will begin.

Prabhu deva &Nayanthara marriage

Even one is in shock over the news that broke out first in Tollywood and has spread to the Kollywood media that Prabudeva and Nayantara have eloped and gotten married. This piece of rumour has left media, fans in shock!!

The closeness between Nayan and Prabudeva has been making rounds for quite sometime now and the buzz was that Prabudeva after the loss of his son, turned to Nayan for comfort. Currently Prabhu Deva is in a unknown placefor a Hindi project and Nayan is abroad for shooting. This has evoked more suspicion on this issue with rumours abuzz that Nayan and Prabudeva have tied the knot.

Recently its known that Nayantara tatooed Prabu on her arm(P in English and rabu in Tamil) in Hyderabad. Sources close to the actress say that “they may be in love, but marriage is not on the cards in the near future as they are both highly professional people who are concerned about their respective careers.” Both the actors were not reachable on their mobile phones which added fuel to the already burning fire.
